There are two main types of shredder to choose from: impact shredders (also known as rapid shredders) and roller shredders (also known as quiet shredders).
Impact Shredders (Rapid Shredders)
Impact shredders use heavy blades to slice and chop garden material into fine pieces.

Advantages of a roller shredder
- Good for fibrous woody material
- Material is pulled through quickly
- Crushed pieces compost more quickly
Disadvantages of a roller shredder
- Occasionally block if the material is too sappy or ‘green’
