Garden Furniture Care – Tips on Making Sure Your Garden Furniture Looks Great for Years

Wooden Garden Furniture Care
Teak is one of the most popular hardwoods used for garden furniture but there are many others too. Teak typically has a high oil count which makes it weather resistant. The idea of teak garden furniture is that it’s maintenance free.
Teak furniture typically only needs a soap scrub once a year to remove any algae.
Teak will ‘age’ naturally from the sun and rain and can develop cracks. If you wish to brighten up your teak furniture you’ll need to do three things. Firstly apply a teak cleaner, then apply a teak brightener followed by a teak oil or sealer. Make sure your furniture is completely dry before doing so or your furniture can go black.
Metal Garden Furniture Care
Steel garden furniture is also mostly maintenance free. Most steel furniture, including that which we sell, undergoes a spray treatment where a protective treatment coats the furniture. This treatment acts as great furniture protection.
If you do notice that your steel garden furniture is fading or rusting or chipping in places then it’s a good idea to touch the furniture up with car paint as this too is weather resistant and prevents it from deteriorating any further. Remember to make sure the paint colour matches!
Our aluminium furniture will not rust but the protective layer added to this may wear and peel off over time. Again, if you wish to touch it up then use a car paint in a matching colour to do so.
We’d recommend covering your steel or aluminium garden furniture during the winter months or storing it in the dry to make sure it looks great.
Parasols, Cushions & Other Garden Furniture Accessories
It’s probably best to bring all of these items indoors when the weather is poor and over the winter. This will prevent them from being spoiled. Parasols that get carried away by the wind can also cause quite a lot of damage. If your garden furniture accessories do get wet make sure they’re fully dry before you cover or store them away or they’ll go mouldy.
