This product does what you would expect it to do, and does it well. It also comes with a two-year guarantee which is comforting. Good value for money.

Perhaps I should have rated this at five. For what I paid for it, for the ease with which I assembled it and the way it does what it says on the tin I'm more than satisfied.

I found the product was good but was a bit disapointed with the small amount it would shreed at one time. If I had known this I would not have purched it.

first i would like to say Gardenlines gave a great service and the shredder arrived on time and was very well priced...the product itself is good value although could do with a reverse gear to clear any blockages... the blades shred the wood into small chips which is great for mulching...all in all very happy with the product and service.

Excellent product and good value for money. Works v. well and liked the long 10mtr flex. Prevented from giving a 5 rating due to v. poor assembly and operating instructions e.g. no mention of need to press the overload switch on front of unit when trying to restart from a jam - a basic thing I believe and also some minor quality points ref machine labels e.g main name label on front had to be refixed by me as it was peeling off when it arrived in the box and also black and yellow warning label on exit chute has fallen off already, after only being used once!
These are minor points however but need attention by mfrs to ensure top ratings for their product. I would still recommend this machine as a good value for money buy.

It took about 15minites to unpack and assemble my Ryobi 2240 Shredder every thing just fitted in to place with no hassle. Used it now three times did every thing I expected it would and produced some ready to use chippings which I have used round my fruit bushes. For the price there carn't be any better.

I am very happy with this machine. I managed to mulch a mountain of tree clippings in a short time. No hitches. Excellent value for money, and the service from Gardenlines is unsurpassed, including personal phonecall to confirm delivery, and actual next day delivery as promised. Will not hesitate to do business with them again.

Used for shredding fallen leaves so far as these tend to be wetish the shredder clogs easily and often, this is not unexpected but time consuming and frustrating.

Wasn't really suitable for our needs - didn't cope with conifer branches at all well. The greenery didn't shred, but just jammed the machine. Easy to open up and remove blockage though.

I found the Ryobi ESR 2240 easy to assemble and easy to operate. No problems so far with the exception of clogging with wet leaves, this was easily rectified and I put that down to my fault for trying to do too much too quick.
Overall good value for money.

Excellent delivery service from Gardenlines. Good machine, bit smaller than I expected. Can't cope with even medium size branches.
But just as every other review says, you have to have some savvy as assembly instructions are useless.

Worked as expected, not the best but more than adequate considering the low cost. Suprised at how quiet it is, somehow expected a higher noise level, perhaps indicative of only really using a commercial petrol driven unit before.
One problem was a damaged mains lead (which is very long, a useful length actually) in the carton, indicating that perhaps the Quality inspection is not all it could be in the factory, the carton was sealed and undamaged so it happened in the packing by the looks of it. Item replace within 2 days by GardenLines, a good response to a customer problem.
Reduced a large pile of cuttings within an hour of assembling, so it certainly works well, suffers as do all the small units from a certain amount of clogging with non woody material but its up to the job with branches and most things I threw at it.
The main Tube that contains the cutters is metal and looks very sturdy, certainly going to last as long as the motor keeps going. The reduced rating is purely because of the poor quality control at the factory, the unit does all it should with no problems. I fully expect to be still using this shredder in 10 years time as easily as I use it now.
Recommended especially at this price.

3/8/2008

Quality 4/5 Value for Money 5/5 Functionality 4/5.
So, all in all it looks well made (for the price), which I couldn't better elsewhere and given that it's a smaller machine it is not too noisy, but you need the patience of a gardener to reduce large amounts of foliage - not a problem for the medium size garden of today!

Simple to assemble and use, though plunger is not as effective as it could be. Very good for shredding dry woody garden waste, quiet in operation too.

Very quiet and easy to use, but not as good with green items as they tend to block the sytem.

6/10/2008

Instructions to assemble were comical but easy to enough to work out how to do put together without them. Great machine which has quietly chomped through 5 years worth of overgrown rose stems and ivy. Other reviews on this site were accurate and helpful in making purchase. good value for the price

Christened the shredder today having put it together myself the other day (I'm a non DIY female!) It works well though I had to use a thicker branch as a 'plunger' quite a few times. And it worked best with dry twigs rather than leaves. Service from this company though is excellent. Euphrosene Labon

a good price and well suited to my needs, a 25m conifer hedge well cut back, the amount of timmings shredded was more than enough to keep me and the wife busy, the amount shredded to fit in the back of a landrover discovery 12 bags was the same as about 5 loads unshredded. a good buy and fast and informed delivery.

It was the first time I had purchased a shredder and being a single mum thought that I could put it together and then use it. Well putting it together myself was not possible. The directions were very bad. Thank god for my 18 yr old son. He put it together but he even said that the directions both printed and picture were very bad.
As far as using it. It is very good though I have to say it doesn't chop the leaves at the ends of the branches very well. For the price, the product is good value but the directions let it down tremendously.

I have two apple trees in my garden plus a number of shrubs that need pruning each year the Ryobi 2240 will be excellent for shredding the prunings for composting and mulching the boarders.

11/8/2008

I found this shredder very good value for money, easy to use & it's not too noisy.
The only problem I would say is that the written instructions for assembling it were not very good. Just as well it had pictures to follow, & even then, not all the parts match the pictures. It took me a bit longer to assemble than expected & it was easier having someone to help hold the frame while tightening the screws.
Would highly recommend it on its quality & ease of use.

This is the first shredder that I have used and I was surprised by how easy it is to use and how quiet it is in operation. the shredder was easy to assemble and it is strongly built and stands very firmly when in use. Easy to manoevre around the garden and has a very sensible long flex. The shredder coped easily with the 40mm size branches off my horse chestnut tree reducing them to virtually sawdust size chippings. I would recommend this product very strongly. Price, delivery and service from Gardenlines was also second to none.

25/3/2008

I found this shredder to be excellent value for money. It was easy to assemble (just bolt the legs and wheels on) although I agree with other customers comments that the instructions were totally useless - pretty obvious from the picture on the box tho.
It surprised me how easily it shredded branches - and how little space the shredded material occupied. It has jammed up on a few occasions - but it is very easy to open and remove the cause of the jam - undo a large knob on the front of the unit, the front swings open - remove obstruction. The length of the cable is a real plus - in my case no need for an extension cable. Good quality thick cable.
I would recommend this shredder as it is brilliant value for money.
Gardenlines were very good at communicating and delivery - I ordered on Sunday, had a phone call on monday to say thanks for the order and that it was being shipped that day, arrived on tuesday.

The product appears good and safe with use so far. Whilst assembly is relatively straightforward the instructions received with the product were worse than useless.

I find it dificult to rate the shredder as I haven't owned one previously.
It works very well and does evrything it is supposed to, the only reason that it has a 4 is that the pictographic instructions were very hard to follow, I ended up using the picture on the box to recognise the way it went together.
After that it reduced half a rose hedge and several bushes to on black bag full of mulch. If I could seperate the ratings I would say, 5 for personal service, 5 for delivery, 5 for performance let down by the put it together instructions.Hint ,there are no split pins.

31/3/2008

It is very efficient and not as noisy as expected, but the instructions for assembly were not very clear. the price represented good value compared to what is on offer at the large DIY stores like B & Q or Focus, and it was delivered promptly and right to the door.

Sturdy, compact machine, easy to use but slow due to restricted feed. Assembly instructions iffy!
