Bosch AXT 2200 HP Quiet Shredder

Star Star Star Star Star

( 5 out of 5 )

3/10/2007

The Bosch AXT 2200 is simple to use, very quiet and powerful. Above all this machine copes extremely well with green plant waste (nasturtiums, tomato plants) as well as woody material (branches, hedging). Ideal for any one who wants to mulch down virtually all garden material

I have only had time to use shredder twice since arrival and my thoughts are that it shredded wood branches very well but the pieces are rather large for top dressing the garden with, the second usage was today with ivy which is going to be a long slow process.

Excellant shredder a big improvement on my previous one, does not clog up even when
a good few leaves are added with the twigs. Very quiet with easy control function.

I researched the product for a while, and decided on Bosch as I have always found it to be a reliable make. The AXT 2200 Quiet Schredder is as it says very quiet and significantly so compared with the impact shredders on the market. I particularly like the auto feed with this shredder, you just place the cuttings in and engage the cutting system which then draws the cuttings into the system allowing you to pick up and be ready for the next feed. It saves considerable time.

Brilliant shredder. quiet as advertised and simple to use. I now have a neat pile of wood chippings rotting down ready for use as amulch instead of 3 big bonfire piles of branches. The shredder arrived almost as I ordered it.

The assembly went well although I was raring to get going and dissapointed at the extra step.

Shredding itself was FANTASTIC. Six bags and 1 hour later I was thwarted by the British weather. Still, plenty more days loads more branches!!

Excellent I have been using it all afternoon surprised how quiet it was, as for value for money you were the best, and it arrived next day.

This is the first shredder I have owned, or for that matter used. I have a large, shrub and tree filled garden, which produces far more prunings than my green bin will cope with. I decided that a shredder would save me a lot of time cutting up prunings and allow me to compost them far more effectively. My initial intention was to buy a 'cheap and cheerful' machine from one of the DIY sheds, but I was put off from these after reading owners' reviews which basically seemed to suggest that they were more trouble than they were worth. So I ordered the Bosch AXT2200 HP purely on the basis of owners reviews even though it cost 3 times what I had initially intended to pay.

When it arrived from Gardenlines, I found that it was well packaged and came with good clear instructions and even a spanner. Assembly took only a few minutes.
In use, the machine is amazingly quiet and I have absolutely no concerns about annoying my neighbours.
The machine copes well with wood prunings of up to about one and a half inches diameter, even hard woods like pyracantha and easily gobbles up branches as long as 8 feet in a few seconds. It's more of a chipper than a shredder as the active part consists of heavy gear type wheel which rotates against a strong metal plate. This draws the material though the machine and breaks it up into chips up to about 1/2 inch in size. For this rerason it is not so effective with very thin, leafy stuff, which tends to go straight through but Im delighted with it

I bought this as a present for my husband although I have also used it. We don't have experience of any other shredders to compare it with, but we are pretty satisfied with this one. It works best on small bundles of straight shrubbery and will cope easily with the attached leaves. Doesn't like leaves on their own though. Our Council only collect 'green' waste fortnightly and we never have enough bin space or compost space for it all, so this is a wonderful way of reducing the bulk of our waste. Saves many trips to the amenity tip and a car left full of bugs and spiders. It really is very quiet - just as advertised. I would also like to add that it's a bit of a "boys' toy" and my husband loves using it! Cathy Kitchener

Very pleased with purchase. Quick delivery. It was up and running within an hour of it being signed for, only took so long because we had to cut down some wood for it. Very pleased with amount it can take and the thickness of the branches was above what we hoped for. Very quiet. Thought of more uses for this than we originally planned. My husband is like a dog with two tails!

Whilst this product technically isn't a shredder (it's a chipper - it chops branches into half-inch sections, and most leaves pass straight through), it's fabulous. It's almost silent, and the self-feeding takes all the grind out of the work. Beware, it's heavy - but that only goes towards its feeling of industrial strength. It makes my old Black and Decker feel very cheap.

We've used it many times now for putting quite large branches full of leaves etc snd have been very very impressed - it's a great workhorse!!

The shredder does eveything I expected it to. As a professional gardener, I have used several shredders, including some large petrol driven ones and this compares favourably. It is very quiet and cuts branches swiftly. Although it's not so good with softer green stuff, I haven't found one which is so I'm happy with that. Altogether, it's a robust, efficient machine.

Expensive, yes. Quiet, very. Seems slow but when you think how long it takes to cut up branches to bag and take to the tip it is much qucker and you get to compost the pieces. So many people have said they have bought shredder's and find they are useless. It is false ecconomy to buy a cheap one. We are very pleased indeed.

Having used this shredder for about a week, I am confident that it is an excellent machine. I have been using it for a variety of cuttings, including quite thick branches from a bay-laurel and long spindly cuttings from Russian Vine. It copes with everything that is fed into it and is almost impossible to clog-up. Having a high-torque motor it deals easily with material at the limit of acceptable thickness. And it is indeed QUIET!

9/2/2008

Extremely quiet in operation
Easy to see 'what is happening inside'
Shreddings seemed a little larger than the Bosch 2000
It is too early to comment in the robustness of this machine. i.e. will it perform satisfactorily year after year without jamming as the 2000 machine did after 2 years. The machine is heavy and seems to be robust but after only one session with creeper cuttings it is premature to decide

On the basis of only a few days use, we consider this shredder to be exactly as described Quiet, efficient, capable of up to 38cm, and value for money.

This shredder is a must have piece of kit for any home gardener. Unlike other shredders where you have to hold on to the material and force it into the cutter blades, this shredder from Bosch grabs and pulls the material through its cutting mechanism with ease. This allows you to pick up the next piece of branch or other material ready to put into the hopper, saving an enormous amount of "waiting" time.
The shredder is up to normal Bosch standards. It is strong, sturdy, and has lots of power. It is easily transported on the wheeled framework.
It is by far the best value for money shredder on the market, not to mention the fact that Gardenlines price could not be beaten and the delivery was exceptionally quick and free.

The machine is well constructed and quiet in operation. deals very well with branches and is more of a chipper than a shredder. The crushing action pulls the branches down when fed into the hopper, a great advantage. The machine does what I wanted of it, as such I am very satisfied

Used the shredder for the first time today, and was very impressed. It copes with most things, even the ones where you don't expect it too! Not very good for soft stringy material (eg Clematis), but I knew this before I bought it. Would have no problems recommending it.

Very easy to assemble. Very quiet. Chops woody stuff up quickly but isn't very good with leaves and very small pieces but as I intend to compost the shreddings it doesn't really matter. I am very pleased with this product.

25/3/2008

The shredder/chipper performed exactly to specification. In 2 hours, 3 of us reduced my son's impenetrable back garden to 5 bags of shreddings. The autofeed feature makes all the difference. I have a 5 year old manual feed shredder and would not have contemplated the job with it. It would have taken a whole weekend and at least 3 trips with my 6x4 trailer to get the branches to the tip - now he can take it himself!

26/3/2008

I am very impressed with this product. I shredded a massive amount of ivy from leafy stems to thick branches. Branches of budleiah went through with no problems as did just about any prunings from the shrubs in the garden . Basically if it fits through the slot at the top it will shred it . I also found I could shred leafy stuff , just bunch it up into a wad the size of a cricket sump and push it through with a stick as soon as it grabs the stick/wab combo it will pull it through.
I used the shredder for 4 hrs virtually none stop creating nearly 10 wheelbarrow loads of chippings without it tripping out due to overload and to be honest it only stopped grabbing a couple of times and that was because the box underneath was so full the chippings had backed up all the way to the rotating blade so there was nowhere for them to go.
Garden lines were excellent , it came before lunchtime the day after I bought it and they called me back on the day of purchase to say the transaction had gone through with no problems , I will use them again.

The Bosch AXT 2200 HP Quiet Shredder is a high quality, surprisingly quiet and very powerful tool. My first experience of using it has been to clear all the branches of a fully grown hazel tree - 25 - 30 ft tall. All was cleared in a couple of hours leaving me with a mound of shredded wood which will supply me with mulch for the borders later on or to cover paths in the garden. Ardderchog - Welsh for excellent. I am very pleased.

15/2/2008

Very impressive piece of kit. This is my first shredder and after lots of weighing up the pros and cons of the cheaper ones half the price I was persuaded by my mother not to make a mistake and opt for false economy. I can't really say if the cheaper ones are any good or not but I just can't believe they could possibly work as well as this does. After shredding a large amount of eucalyptus and leylandii over three full days I am very grateful to have a machine that auto feeds while you drag over another branch and auto reverses if you've overloaded it(rare). If I had to feed it constantly it would have doubled my work load so it's a really important feature. It doesn't seem to clog and just chews through pretty much whatever I can fit into it. My only gripe with it (this is a really small one) is that the power cord comes out of the machine on the front where the user stands and it gets in the way a little. From a perfection point of view it would be better situated out the side or bottom. This is a very minor issue though! Overall it still deserves 5 stars as it definately is an excellent product and it gets the job done with no messing about. Very happy! :)

Only had this a few days. Chosen on basis of reviews on various sites including GardenLines.
The shredder is easily and quickly assembled. It seems to be of robust construction, fairly heavy, but easy to wheel around.
It works very well on branches up to 3-3.5cm (we have had nothing bigger to feed it with yet) and pulls the material through at a reasonable rate. Less effective with softer, green material, but we were aware of this. No jamming or blockages and the machine is designed to run continuously for long periods.
We are getting through our pruning and garden tidying in double quick time. So far a pleasure to use and seems reasonable value for the money.

We had huge amounts of hedge and bush cuttings to deal with and spent ages trying to figure out the best shredder for us. The 2200 HP is very good. We said it was the best 'toy' we had bought in a long time.
It has a geared down, toothed, cutting wheel that does the work so it's the top type of domestic shredder. The others being spinning blades and corkscrew type grinders.
It easily chomps it's way through branches up to it's limit; if you can get a stick through the hole it will cut it.
It is quiet, relentless and if it does jam the motor auto reverses so it must have an 'over-torque' protection system. Just shift the troublesome branch and try again and it usually cuts it anyway. You can reverse the rotation to unjam it manually too.
It is not so good with soft stuff, but then it didn't claim to be.
We cleared our backlog, a massive 4m square 2m high stack of branches, in 2 hours. It produced a compost pile of less than a cubic metre, which we will use as mulch and for pathways.
We've gone on to shred loads more stuff and now have 3 piles of slowly rotting wood.
It is also maneuverable enough to take to our friends and family and shred their stuff too.
Excellent value for money at £239 delivered with a bag.

It works well on most branches, but has a problem with willow over 1 inch thick. It jams and will not reverse unless you loosen off the pressure plate. The bag does not hang well on the hooks provided.

6/12/2007

Looks robust - but only much use will tell.
Double length of lead would only add pound or two to price but make it much more usable without need of heavy capacity extension cable.
Cannot agree that it handles up to 38mm - 30mm is a more accurate guide.
After two sessions I am happy that I bought the best solution for my needs at a very fair price.

This is the first shredder I have used and it has exceeded my expectations. It is quiet, powerful (it can shred any thickness of wood that will go through the opening), and quick. It feels like it should give years of service.

4/3/2008

Excellent machine 'does what it says on the tin', in respect of cutting and being a very quiet motor. a joy to use. Only exception:- the hooks for holding the bag are not sufficient to support the bag to prevent the bag handles from coming unhooked. May I suggest longer hooks??

7/4/2008

Great if its lots of woody branches your chopping ( I would'nt call it shredding),but if you want to make compost the resulting large chunks will take a long time to break down. It is very quiet compared to the shredder I have used before.
If its neglected hedge clippings/prunings your trying to dispose of, I would buy a blade shredder and ear defenders.
In an ideal one of each type would be great!

Have only used once, so early days yet. Remarkably quiet, yet seems capable of reducing a 1.5 inch branch to chippings with ease. Well built and not difficult to assemble. Expensive, but hopefully that will be reflected in years of trouble free use.
