The giant Mauritius is the largest Ell-Tex spreader-bar hammock, with loads of extra room for long, dreamy afternoons. It can be left outside in drizzling rain or scorching hot sun, thanks to its Ell-Tex fabric construction. A special mix of polyester and cotton, it is very weatherproof, hardly fades and stays extremely tear-proof even after repeated exposure to heat and dampness.
It is available in a vibrant striped pattern. All our hammocks are supplied in a smart bag of matching material. Matching cushions are available as an optional extra (see options section below). This hammock would make a wonderful gift for a friend or relative.
Hammocks can be suspended from a frame such as the Gala frame illustrated, or any of our other frames (illustrated separately). To select the frame of your choice, click in the Options section below. You can also use any two fixed points such as two trees, a building and a tree, or one fixed point and a specially designed movable fixed point, which we call the Madera frame.
Alternatively to suspend the Hammock between two fixed points we would recommend 2 of our adjustable weather proof Smart Ropes with snap hooks. Or if you require one end of the hammock to be connected to a building, you will require an Easy Plus fitting which is a wall mounted bracket with a snap hook supplied with screws and rawlplugs.
If you have just one fixed point, we recommend you select the Madera frame and one adjustable weather proof Smart Rope with snap hook. The Madera is securely anchored in the lawn with the special earth bolt; an adjustable rope ensures the correct lying position. The weather-proof hard wood frame becomes the new tree in your garden.
If the hammock is suspended on a frame and left outside you may wish to consider a weather proof Hammock Sock which is simply slipped over the hammock.
This hammock is made in Brazil where hammocks are still used as beds, as they always have been. This is the reason that they are as wide and comfortable as a bed! Even if you are only going to use your hammock for relaxation, you should still try to adopt the Brazilian way of lying (diagonally across the hammock - not straight along it). Contrary to European ideas, hammocks are not hung taut.
The most important thing is to arrange the hammock's suspension loops at head height, and only some 3m distant from each other, thereby allowing the hammock to hang down in a deep arc. This then allows a diagonal lying position (from corner to corner), which keeps the back straight and is the secret of being able to lie comfortably and relaxed for hours on end in a hammock.
