Maintenance of Nova Furniture

Once you’ve received your Nova furniture you’ll want to preserve the pristine condition it arrived in.

This job is made easy by Nova’s use of high quality materials, with their range of cast aluminium furniture heading the list. Aluminium chairs and tables and stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers are completely rust free and require virtually no maintenance. All Nova recommend is an occasional light application of car wax. Customers living on the coast needn’t worry as all cast aluminium paint finishes have been salt spray tested to the highest industry standards. However, any break or abrasion on the paint surface should be touched in immediately with a suitable outdoor paint.

The same standards apply to Nova timber products. Some surface cracking is unavoidable as all timbers expand and contract with fluctuation of temperature and humidity (less of a problem in Britain’s temperate climate). The end grain is the most vulnerable due to the natural living character of the wood and joints may open slightly, though this does not affect durability or strength. If the weathered-look doesn’t appeal, prolong life by storing wooden garden furniture under cover to reduce the effects of the elements.

Additionally, a light application of wood sealer once or twice a year will preserve colour and protect furniture from the effects of UV rays and water. A solvent-based preservative should be applied to a dry, dust-free wood surface once the original oil has been totally cleaned off.

The durable character of teak makes it naturally resistant to changes in atmospheric conditions, which explains why it is the preferred timber for park benches and ocean liner decks. Colour variations will equalise when exposed to sunlight, with untreated teak turning a pleasant silver-grey.

As for tubular steel and synthetic resin weave products an occasional wipe down with warm soapy water will do the trick. When washing Nova upholstery refer to the instructions on the sewn-in cushion label. All timber, cast and resin cushions, including the Seasons Range can be surface washed with warm water and should be stored in a dry, warm area when not in use.

By taking care of your Nova furniture, it will remain serviceable for a very long time.
